Studying Psychedelics in Grad School [ONLINE]

About this Event
This panel was organized under the umbrella organization that is the Intercollegiate Psychedelics Network (IPN), specifically in conjunction with the PsychedelX student talk competition program that members of IPN’s Research and Professional Team organized.
The panel will feature graduate students researching psychedelics, namely Victor Acero, Haley Dourron, Maria Bălăeț, and Ari Brouwer.
This panel will be moderated by Isla Weber, IPN’s Research and Professional Development “Co-Cap” (co-chair). Isla is currently taking a year off from her undergraduate studies a Princeton and working as a research assistant in Columbia University Department of Psychiatry and New York State Psychiatric Institute.
Victor Acero is a third-year Bioengineering PhD candidate focusing on the engineering of nanoparticles for intranasal delivery of salvinorin A as a pharmacotherapy for traumatic brain injury.
Haley Dourron is a first-year health behavior PhD student at the University of Alabama, Birmingham researching schizophrenia and psilocybin. Haley also serves as “co-cap” (co-chair) of IPN’s Research and Professional Development team.
Maria Bălăeț is a second-year computational neuroscience PhD student at Imperial College London studying cognition in neurological patients and altered states and runs a large scale study on how psychedelics affect cognition which you can learn about here.
Ari Brouwer received his master’s degree in religious studies from the University of Boston and studied the overlap between mystical, psychotic, and psychedelic experiences. He plans to pursue a PhD studying psychedelics in an interdisciplinary manner.
